Moving to Europe

Here’s the story of how we sold everything & moved to Europe off of an intuitive hit…

First, let me start by saying there was no plan, no conversation, no sense that Europe was on the radar to move too. No dream or vision on the back burner. Maybe potentially visit, at some point. Which is why, at the end of December 2015, I was caught off guard when I intuitively heard “April 17, 2017. That’s when you move to Europe.” And it came through repeatedly.

Given that I trust my intuition - as I used to not and that got me into more challenges than I can count - I had to listen. Plus, it was such a specific directive, I couldn’t ignore it.

I tell my husband, “Strangest thing, but I heard a date in my head around making a move to Europe.”

His response? “Really?! I had the same thing happen last week, same thought, and with a date.”

“Tell me your date!” I say.

"April, 17, 2017"

WHAT?! That was my date!!!

“Now what?” I asked. He replied, "Figure out how to move to Europe."

So we did. It was decided. We chose to leap.

We had never been here. Arrived with no permanent place to live. No jobs. Everything we owned in 9 suitcases. Our 13-year-old cat and 5-year-old kiddo in tow. Many called us brave and inspiring. Some said dumb. People always seem to have opinions. But, it’s your life, not theirs.

There were many serendipitous events that began happening as soon as we arrived, including a place to call home that found us rather than us seeking it out.

After a barrage of comments from people telling us how hard it would be to find a place to live, expensive, impossible without a job contract, we had someone reach out to us to see if we were looking for a place.

She had been following our story in an online expats group and decided to reach out. Her place hit 90% of what we wanted - furnished, in our price range, cat friendly, family neighbourhood around the corner from a huge playground, close to the city centre, and cute. Her response when we met? “Normally, I’d do the credit check and job contract, but I just have a feeling about you two, an intuition that you should live here.”

Rental contract signed. Keys in hand. Move in date? April 17, 2017.

Full circle moment!! Intuition confirmed. We had officially arrived.
